CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
The Way of St James
The Camino Frances - from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela
778kms over 33 stages with 2 rest days - an average of 23.5km/day.
I first read about the Camino de Santiago in a magazine in 2011 sometime – I can’t even remember which magazine. The article was written by a lady, probably at a time in her life where I find myself now. She also did a solo walk and her journey truly resonated with me even then, 13 years ago.
The Camino bug bit and it has been calling me ever since, at times louder than others. My hope is to answer the call as I complete my 50th turn around the sun.
Combining my love for walking, travelling in Europe, exploring historic landmarks & buildings, with my continued evolution of self, I’m so excited to learn more about life, on a path travelled by so many pilgrims, for so many years. How astoundingly epic!
My plan is to follow the late John Brierley’s “A Pilgrim’s Guide to the Camino de Santiago – Camino Frances” and stick to his 33 day walking plan as closely as possible, without being too rigid, should things work out a little differently. I have pored over his 2012 edition for many years, and have now purchased the 2022 edition to ensure my information is up to date and relevant.
